August 21, 2007 General Meeting

Meeting opened at 7:00 PM.

Meeting began with a treasures report as Reid Shipley announced that there was currently $865.00 in the account.

“Friends for a Greater Centralia” was the first item of discussion. Reid explained that the group was formed from various local government agencies, organizations, businesses, and others interested in the economic growth of Centralia. Friends for a Greater Centralia will be hosting a dinner and other events the weekend of October 26 and 27. The CHSAA has agreed to sponsor a breakfast for the guests on October 27 starting at 10:00 AM. CHS students will provide entertainment and volunteer as servers.

The second item discussed was landscaping for the new high school. Brad Coffey presented various ideas and it was noted that the class of 47 had already donated landscaping for the interior mall area of the new school. The discussion was tabled for the next meeting.

Reid said Vince Holtkamp would have a proposal for the next meeting for a new dues and membership structure.

Marietta Broughton discussed possible ways to provide scholarships and various ways to select recipients.

The need to advertise was discussed and the need to have a major article in the paper and other methods of advertising was suggested.

Information on a Distinguished Alumni Award will be presented at the next meeting.

The next meeting date will be September 25.
